HR today

Sending a student of mine up there to assist with wire crewing. His name is
Janni and he's a strong H-2 FL with airtime aerotowing as well. But he's
never down wire before and needs to. Hopefully they'll be folks up there
for him to assist. Conditions look ok.

Wow,
Thanks Richard. Dave and I showed but no one else. It was blowing
pretty good and neither of us wanted to launch with just one other on the
wires... we hung around and waited. Cold and few clouds blowing through
maybe 1500-2000' over. Dave had already been there a while so even though
it was supposed to back down we started to think about bagging it. I don't
have tons of mountain experience and wanted more crew and I think Dave did
too. It was definitely soarable as it was coming in around 12 or 15 max
with some gusts and slight switches. Colder than I'd hoped for we packed
it in and headed out fairly early, before 2 I guess. Later in the day may
have been doable with little or no crew but it was sliding south too. Too
bad I'm a wimp, as I think it was pretty soarable. Next time, after I get a
bit more experience I'll give it a go with just one on the crew.

Thanks for sending in the cavalry and sorry we ditched out early.

John, Don't go up on that block without a full wire crew unless the winds are near zero. We LIKE you.

Hey Paul,
Yeah, but a full crew is more likely to drink my beer while I'm skying
out... gotta weigh the plusses and minuses. One man crew might leave me one
(if I live).

Lot's more experience needed for me. Good day to walk away.

Sparky called to offer his help while I was standing on the Rock, but
my weirdo phone didn't ring, and I couldn't hear the message until a
couple of hours and 60 miles later. Oh well, it was still a
beautiful day. I gave a brochure to a Baltimore-area wuffo who
expressed minor interest.


Condition report: Setup area was a solid sheet of ice, missing only
the Zamboni. The steps and the Rock were clean. LZ looked clear
from 1100 feet up.

Never leave until you see the sun dipping towards the horizon. I was watching conditions all day today greed-eyed with envy. It looked great at the end of the day. See below. Ya could have got on the phone and called Sparky and Eddie and Kurtis Kemerer and begged for launch help.
