Pulpit Sunday 12/11

Post by XCanytime »

Winds are predicted to switch to the W by 12 noon.? Toasty warm at 34 degrees by that time too :-).? I'll be there, and I believe the author Shawn Ray :-) will be there too.

The 'cast for the Pulpit is pretty strong at the moment:

SUNDAY
MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 50 PERCENT CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS.
HIGHS IN THE LOWER 30S. WEST WINDS 10 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO
30 MPH.

Ditto the ADDs 3k 'cast. So... I'll be keeping an eye on both
Pulpit and Woodstock for tomorrow.

Note that a west-cross at Wstock can be pretty good for a
ridge run, if you can get across the first gap!

Any other cold-weather pilots thinking of flying tomorrow?

Don't know what the ramps are like today. We received 8" thursday night, and it got damm windy. I won't be going up that way today, although Bacil and I will be there tomorrow in the am to clean it . Salt, and shovels.Maybe the snow blew off, but my VW probably won't make it back the lane. I'll have to pack mule in from the bar. That's nothing.I may have a friend with a plow unit for tomorrow.
...............Let's Fly.

Forecast aloft is still a bit strong, but at least the
areas of 30-40kts at 3k are gone from the ADDS
map. Phew!

So I'll probably give the Pulpit a try tomorrow.

FYI, Hank tells me that the road at Woodstock is closed.

Hmmmm... I see an awful lot of southwest out there.
Add the clouds, and I'm having trouble getting excited
about the day.

Does anyone see something encouraging, at least
for wind direction?

Mark C.

BTW: Check out the wave pattern in the WVa panhandle
on the satellite. Looks like a washboard! (or Craig's
washboard tie)

I'm bailing.... Cold, no sun, me no fly.

Course, by next weekend, with my last airtime fix
two weeks behind me, my attitude may be a little
different...

Arrived at Pulpit to 8" of snow and strong but marginally OK SW winds. Bacil greets me as if I was long lost best friend--but it soon becomes apparent he's ready to launch and a third is required on the wirecrew.

Bacil bounces around to the south for a bit and then is observed making a dive for the field across the street from the main. Meantime, it gets more cross at 20-30 and starts snowing. I bail to HR where Linda is pushing some moron and his Jaguar out of the snow behind launch! Winds are much less. but I give up since I have to pack for Florida since I leave tomorrow.

Pulpit run

Post by mikel »

Well Guys,
It was all guts today...... Passed Marc on the way up to pulpit,
and arrived 15 min. prior to the return of Bacil and crew....
Things became a bit blustery, however the winds were straight
up the hill..... fast and a bit chilly...... So, my riding partners
and I slipped up to HR and was greeted by some turists.....
Hope to catch up with Ya'll next time.......

Til then, M

What kind of guy would drive his Jaguar into the snow and not be able to get out????? Too little brains with too much money. Hopefully his ego is suffering because a girl had to push him out....

Too bad it was too windy and too cross at HR today. We watched the snow engulf the Pulpiteers as it headed across the valley. Glad someone got in a flight today. -Linda

Yeah.? Blowing straight in from the west at 1PM on the ramp.? Got 250' over and 20 minutes due to the combination of having to be home early and a pothole on the ridge.? VG-equipped glider would have been fine in the conditions.? Predicted to switch to the west by 12 noon to 1PM and it did.? Ramps didn't need any work at all.? Snow had been blown off by the high winds on Friday.? What happened to the Delta I used to know?
