Sunday in Florida

Post by Paul Tjaden »

Very busy day at Quest yesterday with lots of tandems and solo flights. Weather was perfect with temps in the 70's and light winds. Soaring conditions were better than they have been lately with several flights in the one to two hour range but not very high (3,000 plus). J.D. Got 1:37 on his Discuss. Lauren had two nice flights on her LS and Kevin took up a female student from Alaska for a thermalling flight. She thought it was pretty great!

I was hoping to fly Kevin's T2 but after one more test flight yesterday, he still wasn't happy with the way it was flying so Kev helped me hurry to set up the Laminar so I wouldn't miss all the soaring. Got about 45 minutes before it shut down. Also got to climb through Kevin twice. Of course he was flying tandem at the time so I suppose he'll whine that he was handicapped or his student was flying.

I guess I'm a flex wing pilot again. Felt pretty comfortable on the Laminar. It did have a slight left turn in it so my right arm and shoulder got tired correcting the turn all the time. I'll need to get stronger and fitter for longer flights. I'm not giving up on my rigid yet but I think I'll try to stay current on both for a while. Lauren appreciates it cause she thinks she can kick my butt now. We'll see.

Interesting....how was it that you ended up below Kevin twice??? We only
count when we are passing but not when we are being passed or following???
HaHa. Gotcha!

That's very cool. Drew thermaled up to 5k w. my Dad as a passenger last April (at Quest). Dad is still talking about it.

Do you think you'll ever be a mountain flex wing pilot again?

Best to you, Lauren and your precocious son Kevin,
