Not sure this qualifies as HG news but wanted to mention that Hugh McElrath headed back north last Friday after spending several days with us while he worked diligently on his approach and landing skills with Kevin C. Hugh, by the way, was a perfect house guest always chipping in with everything from food prep. and purchase to helping keep the house tidy. Thanks, Hugh.
Another thing I wanted to mention was what a great instructor Kevin has become. Not only are his teaching skills excellent but his concern for making certain his students actually LEARN is obvious. Lauren and I have both benefitted from his help and I know Hugh feels the same. I would be VERY surprised if we hear about Hugh needing to extricate himself from the trees and bushes again. Anyone who feels they need help with any of their flying skills should consider spending some time with Kevin.
Ok, off to the flight park. supposed to be in the mid 70's today with light south winds!

Well, I have to respond to this by publicly thanking the Paul and
Lauren for generously opening their beautiful home to me and making
me feel so welcome. They are living the life so many of us are
hoping to achieve - and they got there by hard work and good business
sense. Lauren's drive for excellence is impressive - makes me feel
like the dilettante I am. Paul is a renaissance man with an open
mind and wide interests in addition to being an internationally rated
cross-country pilot and all-around nice guy. Once again, the
greatest thing about being a part of this sport is the friendship...
- Hugh
P.S. Yup, Kevin really is a highly professional instructor: the
same analytic skills that make him a great pilot enable him to
articulate concepts to a student in an intelligible way. In
addition to talking on the ground and on the radio, he presented me
with a tailored written syllabus at the beginning, used video to
critique my landings, and sent me off with the video and a written
approach and landing procedure. It's really worth the time and money
to take professional instruction at the advanced level. We do it in
general aviation when we transition to new aircraft or ways of
operating, and for recurrent training, so why not just as much in
hang-gliding?
