Pulpit today?

Post by Dan T »

My guess is that if you can put up with the cold it's going to be a very good day at the Pulpit today.? West winds 5-10 this time of year can make for great hang II conditions.

It's a bit too cold for my taste but perhaps my arm could be twisted.? Bacil is already on the way.

I'll be ay Pulpit from 9:30 to 11:30am to help launch Shawn and Bacil (and anyone else), then to White Tail, then back at 3:30pm. If it hasn't switched by then, I may get to fly.

8:00am balloon from Dulles had 32kts at 2700'.

There's a NW wave pattern visible on the satellite
in south-central PA and the WVA pan-handle,
creeping into VA.

Makes me wonder about Woodstock.....

I'm going to head for the Pulpit; we'll see what we see!

I know Daniel B and Ashley are also headed there,
so we should have a pretty good turnout.

Local Altoona weather station is showing wnw @13mph@1500 feet, temperature out my kitchen window(McConnellsburg) is 26f in the shade, standing in the yard and looking strait up the little cumies are trying to roll into little cigars, must be the rotor from the ridge on this west side of the valley. I got to Greencastle by 10:00 am--and the winds were 15-20 gusting harder out of the SW. I bag it and turn around, stopping at Smithsburg where the wind is howling out of the SSW. I go home. At Frederick the flags start showing gentle NW. I decide the winds are going to switch 180 wherever I go--so I just go home. Of course, soon after I get home Kelvin calls to tell me he's standing on the ramp and its coming straight in. At least the dogs got to poop in the woods with the pope.

Pulpit today?

Face it Flounder, you f***ed up, you trusted Greencastle's conditions :-) as an indicator of the Pulpit launch conditions.? What's happening in Greencastle ain't got nuthin' to do w/ what's going on on the ramp.? It was sweet at the Pulpit today.? Report to follow.

You're absolutely right. Lesson learned--if you forecast great flying at the Pulpit 52 weekends a year, you're bound to eventually be right.
