draugh hill in /outside of elmira, ny
I think it is 300'
Its near the sailplane airport.
20 minute turnaround on the road....long hike back up.
(ps it is not the site next to the sailplane airport)
What area are you looking at? If Eastern PA, then seek Bill Umstattd. He teaches (solo) tandem. His training sites won't be what you're looking for, but he'd know of any taller ones. wuffos@yahoo.com 610-527-1687
The watergap club may also be of help. They do lots of PG.
Thanks Jim and Mike--I know Bill and I'll give a hollar (I already know Hilam hill). I will be driving down Friday from Maine and will be available this weekend.
Jim--the PG flying there looks totally awesome! Are you there just for the season--or semi-permanent?
Hey marc,
I hear there is a good size, open, hill facing
east, just west of Frederick, MD
If it pans-out i'll let you know........
Mike
Oh, maybe even another west and east cliff launch site....
think it is called "goose nest", located west of Martinsburg,WV
..... req's more research ( paved road all the way up)
I'm just here for the season. I'll be at Quest in April/May and back at Highland for the summer. PG and HG are pretty spectacular here. Doing both definately seems to be the ticket.

Cool. I've always thought doing both PG and HG were very complimentary--plus it helps keep me from getting in over my head when I can switch between the two. I'll be headed to Quest soon for the Paul and Lauren World Team Hootnannny.

Sounds like you're out in Homer's neck of the woods. I don't get out as much as I used to--living now in Maine--but have I met you at Woodstock by any chance? As for the big hill facing east--is that by any chance near Boonesboro off of Alt. 40? I opened that up many years--but it was closed soon after I moved. Maybe a new effort to open it up again might be worth it. I commend you on your efforts to find new sites--precious few pilots are willing to do that. I'll get in touch with you sometime this coming weekend.
I don't think we met 2 woodstock, since I'm a newbie.
Taking lessons from Rich Hays and helping out with
Sparky......
But, still feel free to call ......
There are plenty of hills out here (west virginia)
Don't forget there is airspace around Martinsburg airport. The gorgeous steep ridge to the west of Martinsburg is in the airspace. If the airport every closes...
