High Rock 11/18

Post by hepcat1989 »

Met up with Sparky, and his tandem passenger Mike in the LZ.I left my car in the LZ and rode up to launch in Spark's Truck with Mike.We started setting up and Dave Bodner showed up and started setting up. I launched first with Spark, and Dave Bodner on the Wing.(THANKS!) I had a clean launch, turned the ridge to the left, and back to launch (nothing.)I headed on out to the lz. I flew through a thermal on the way to the lz, but not sure how much I should sacrifice in altitude chasing it. Any thoughts on that?
I had a good approach, and landing 15 ft. from the streamer, and on my feet.
I had fun!
Shawn.

The Tandem flight from High Rock yesterday was a sled ride, but fun the passenger, Mike Lee. Before we launched, two Pentagon Police and two bus-loads of school kids showed up.

Thanks to Andrew and Dave for launch assistance.

I launched last. It had gone really cross at 2-3. I could've
ignored the cross, but I waited for a reasonably straight cycle. At
7 minutes and 130 (very briefly) over, I got FOD! Still, it was a
beautiful day, and I'm glad I overcame my morning reluctance from the
cold.

If you are clearly gonna arrive at the LZ with plenty of altitude, then if you hit a thermal, go for it. hard to snap out of the LZ mode though, if you are in a low performance wing.

Thanks Brian. I was a little below launch when I headed to the upwind end of the LZ.I was able to do three 180's then started my DBF. I should have turned in it. Shawn.
