chga listserv

Post by padamez »

Hi Mark,
I was just wondering what will become of all the information stored in the chga listserv. I found the search capability very useful when I was doing research on products and techniques, not to mention the historical value it contains.

Thanks,
PAUL

Now that is a darn good question Paul!

I agree, content over at the chga folkriver.com site has value.

I've never tried, but perhaps a Mailman-based listserv could
be loaded with legacy content of an old list, just so the messages
could be preserved/searchable/etc ?

Or perhaps I could create a static forum at the CHGPA site,
and somehow 'import' all those old messages.

Hmmmm..... Will give it some thought and do a little research.
Maybe some of the other tech savvy types in the club could
help out with such a project?

Lyris list export

Post by alek »

I'm not sure what kind of access there is to the folkriver server, but if you can get to the shell, there is a script to export a Lyris archive to a standard mail text file. That, in turn, could probably be loaded into either a Mailman listserv or perhaps a forum here.

See ftp://ftp.lyris.com/listmanager/scripts/exp-arc.pl for the script.

The folkriver list was provided 'gratis' as a service to the club
(Dave Green initially, then friends of his), but we've never had
any actual control over it (ie, shell access at the folkriver site).

But knowing about this script is a big help Alek; maybe we
can find someone to run it for us and provide the exported email
file.

If that happens... perhaps you'd also be willing to do some
research on import into Mailman-based lists? Or into static
phpbb forums? Would be very nice to have help on this, if
we can get the old content exported.

folkriver archives

Yeah, absolutely. If we can get the folkriver export, I'll (try to) figure out how to import it into Mailman or phpBB.
