Fifi administrator

Post by pink_albatross »

Mark,
I tried to edit a FiFi post (not mine) to see if I could. I can't. It says only administrators can edit posts in the group. I thought I was an administrator?

Hi Ellis,

You are a 'group moderator' for the FiFis, but you don't have true 'admin'
level privileges for the forum, which is what's needed for editing posts.

I figured that making all posts un-editable (once submitted) was
probably the safest course. If you *really* need something done
for an important reason (and, say, deleting a post won't suffice)
give me a call or send me a PM describing the situation.

Actually what happened was that one FiFi quoted the previous post and all the HTML gobbledeegook of the previous post showed up. No big deal of course, but I thought I'd try out my admin powers and remove the HTML stuff.

How do you avoid doing this sort of thing? I suppose the poster would have to enable HTML for the post? What happens if the poster did this via email (which is what I suspect happened)?

Yeah, this is definitely because the user:

- has HTML enabled in their email software

- hit "Reply / Include" when they replied to the post

- did not take the time to edit that reply, to remove
all / some of the message that they are replying to

You might want to try to encourage people to have
some pity on their fellow pilots : we REALLY don't
need to see email replies that include the entire original
message.

If there's something in that a post that you need to quote,
well, fine.... but how about removing all the **rest** of the
stuff that's irrelevant to your reply?

One could also try to encourage users to configure their
email software so that replies are in text format only....
But most people just won't get it.
