Pareto Proven Wrong!

Post by CraginS »

The CHGPA Forum has 160 registered members.
65 of them have never posted even once to any of the forums.
37 members have posted fewer than 10 times - single digit posters.
45 are double digit posters.. 10 -99 posts
of the 13 triple digit posters, only 3 have more than 300 posts

Total posts = 4435
Top poster Hugh has nearly 10%... 418, all by himself.
887 posts, or 20%, come from the top 3 alone, Hugh, Scott, and Sparky, who account for 1054 posts.

According to the Pareto Rule, also known as the 80/20 Rule, we should have expected that 20% of the members, or 32 individuals, would account for 80% of the posts.
Clearly, Pareto was wrong by an order of magnitude... 3, not 32!

as i started out with the sole motivation and goal of reaching the top ten, i may have skewed things.
what if you analyzed just the 'political' threads?

I don't have access to the data by separate forum. I used the statistics in the memberlist link, whcih accumulates posts in all forums.

It was a quick play, to see if Scott is really the highest poster, and by how much. Surprised to see Hugh at the top.
You'll have to beg Mark C. fo rmore detailed stats if you want to check your poli-post record is intact.

Hmmm - not averse to accepting the award for top contributor, but do the stats log all the replies to a string and assign it to the originator. In the political threads on the off-topic forum, it seems to me the titles were Marco's originals and I would have expected them to be assigned to him, if that's how it works. - Hugh

Or how about posting along side their ratings, their flying time.

On another slant, how about the total volume of text sent. I think Hugh would blow the charts away since he still can't figure out how to not quote everything he replies to. <grin> :)

Before you flame me Hugh, please note the <grin> and the smily above.

Hugh,
the geeks did figure it out, and gave you the answer. You just never acted on it. You can set your mail program to reply with quotes, or reply without quotes. You accepted the default reply with quotes setting, and then never take time to delete the excessive or unnecessary part of the quoted material. You know, like the part with Rance's comments that would have been here if I had not deleted them.

Pareto Proven Wrong!

Given your feeble powers of comprehension, probably not.

So does this mean you can't or won't tell me how to set the default
for "without quoting"? You see, I am willing to comply with a
reasonable request, but if all you want to do is play a childish game
of trading insults, then you will continue to get the full repeated
text posted to the webmail. I try to remember to delete long
originals/strings, but the point is, I shouldn't have to. In
straight e-mail, it doesn't matter. It's only in the blog format
that it does. So if it matters to you, you have to make it easy for
me. - Hugh

re: Managing QUote Mode on the Mac

Post by CraginS »

Dang, Hugh, I thought that this was the OT Forum, where the childish game of trading insults was the standard practice.
I'm sorry I missed that you needed to be in the forum help area. I sincerely did not mean to hurt your feelings.
Anyway, I'd be happy to help you sort out the method. However, I need to know what program you are using. When you said you are on your Mac, I assumed you are using Mail. I have not had a chance to look at the Mail Preferences to see where the quote mode option is. I have Mail, but don't use it routinely, so I need to do the resaerch.
However, you mentioned below that you are in blog mode. That makes me wonder if you are using Mail or something else. On my rare use of Mail, I had not noticed blog mode.
Let me know the program in use, and I'll do my best to ferret out the settings method.

sincerly,

cragin

Just a suggestion.

Sheila already told me how. I did not subscribe to a Mac users forum
either. Cheers - Hugh

Ya, I know, but sometimes I forget, and people complained, so was
looking for an automated way - which Sheila kindly pointed out to
me. May not make much sense if you read it as e-mail, though...
