Hello;
I am a H4 mountain pilot who has just moved into the area (montgomery county) from California. Unfortunately my glider will be in storage until October, when I can move into the new house. Even then it will be those pesky chores getting the into the new house, so I am expecting to not get any airtime until the spring.
But I would certainly like to get to know some pilots and gain a little familiarity about the flying sites so I don't squander those precious X-C days doing the basics.
I'll come round to the next club meeting when the details get posted, but other than that, is there anyone I should talk to?

Stay away from that Chris McKee guy. Other than that, pretty much
everyone else is pretty safe to talk to.
Your best bet - stay tuned here for details on the next club meeting
(only a few weeks away), and get acquainted then. Also, if there's
good flying weather, it wouldn't hurt to come out and watch, just to
learn the specific nuances of our sites. Flying here is NOT like
flying in California! If you want to come out, contact any of the
board members off-line for directions to the site of the day.
Other than that, Welcome to Maryland!

and much of November can be pretty darn good in this area.
Hopefully you'll be able to enjoy some fall flying before
it gets cold!
We have a variety of different launches : slope, cliff, and
ramp. They all have their quirks, so ask around before
flying; most pilots will happily talk your ear off

Thank You all for the warm welcome. I'll plan on attending the meeting on the 26th, which is right around when I get my wing.
Yeah, I am not expecting the CA flying... of the NV flying...or the OR flying... but I will get to see that fall foliage! And it is damn cold when you have to carry O2 anyway. [You gotta find that silver lining :^)]

Welcome. I think you'll love the area and especially the flying community. You stressed the point "mountain pilot" however, I wanted to throw my two cents in and mention that there are two excellent aerotow operations (Highland Aerosports and Mannquin (sp?)) where spectacular flatland flying can be had. Both have been featured in Hang Gliding mag. If you have never aerotowed, I suggest you give a try.

Mountain Pilot vs...

I stressed Mountain pilot as opposed to coastal pilots.
Currently I have no towing signoffs (I started to dabble, but never got the sign off), but I am happy to learn towing. Actually I look forward to it.
But we do fly the flat lands as well. In fact, I believe my fastest enjoyable sustained climb I ever had was in the flatlands.
