It's a reciprocal arrangement for diving. The analogy doesn't exactly
translate to our environment, because there is no one-to-one
relationship between the pilot and the wire crew.

Years ago on the old list server we got into a thread about watching out for each other, and I remember suggesting that we could adopt a "buddy system" like the one done in scuba diving.

I think what they're talking about is to do a mountain-style hang check
*before* you load the glider on the cart.

Seems to me like we "do" do actual suspension hang-checks at flight
