Tom Allen reached out to me about attending this event and indicated the proposed dates were Saturday and Sunday, October 21 - 22.

They are saying a helicopter will be flying over this Sunday 10/8/23 at 4PM to take some film of gliders staged on the ground. Hard to believe but we will see on Sunday at 4PM.
Re: Looking for only hang gilder pilots to Fly High Rock
New time for the helicopter is Sunday 10/8/23 4:45PM and we have the producers telephone # for coordinating with the helicopter in case anyone wants to fly tomorrow afternoon.
Re: Looking for only hang gilder pilots to Fly High Rock
I plan to be there for wire duty.

I suppose I could be tempted to wander up that way. Not sure about the flight prospects though, looks very strong and W-cross.
Course, just a forecast....

I don't really understand why they are planning to fly a helicopter over tomorrow at 4:45PM when they will have drones on 10/21 and 10/22.
"Copter pilot will be there at 4:45."
"Hoping the wind is right for High Rock. We would like as many pilots as possible to come fly Saturday the 21st and Sunday the 22nd. The LZ is cut and a film crew is coming to take drone footage for a documentary on High Rock. Please make this a great event, thanks Tom."

Maybe they plan to get some wider-area footage today, that can set the stage for the drone footage later?
Re: Looking for only hang gilder pilots to Fly High Rock
Impressive turnout. Thanks Tom A. for coordinating with the producer and HG pilots!
Re: Looking for only hang gilder pilots to Fly High Rock
The helicopter showed up on-time and made around a dozen passes a couple of hundred feet above the set-up area.
For the next round, Tom suggested we camp in the LZ, so the the filmmakers can possibly catch us in-flight with his drones, on the weekend of 21-22 October.

And here we are (assuming I've figured out adding a photo).
Don't criticize us for placing the windsock in a rotor zone. It's there for visual effect, only.

Who are the two people to the right of Danny in the picture?
Re: Looking for only hang gilder pilots to Fly High Rock
Aaron is standing next to Danny. I always thought he was behind soaring road trip.

Did anyone fly HR on Sunday?

No. The helicopter was all over and even below launch.
Re: Looking for only hang gilder pilots to Fly High Rock
No way anybody should be near a helicopter. Bob Wills, who had won the U.S., Canadian and British hang-gliding championships in 1976, and was considered a legend in the sport, would in 1977 die from being accidentally blown down by a helicopter while he was filming a commercial. This is the land owners rule,
"All I ask is that nobody drives down through the field I rent that to my neighbor to bale and he sprays and takes care of it you can land in it just have to carry your kite up to the pavilion"

See you tomorrow on Monday the 23rd.
Re: Looking for only hang gilder pilots to Fly High Rock
Thanks to everyone that came out today. The producer would like more footage so if we get flyable weekend before the leaves fall off let's get back out there. Thanks to all involved that are making this happen.

Some videos were posted on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/tom.allen.5891 ... &ref=notif I'm the one on the upper left.
In very light conditions, I potatoed on launch while the drones' batteries drained. The smaller drone spookily hovered 20 feet in front of me until I launched.
The filmmakers are the folks who did "Chesapeake by Air" and similar films for Maryland Public Television. I'm sure they were hoping for some more interesting flying, but they won't know what they have until they review all their film. They have to get what they can before the change in seasons ruins their continuity.
