Woodstock Sunday afternoon Dec. 12th
Looks good. Who's interested? Bacil
Re: Woodstock Sunday afternoon Dec. 12th
I'm in and any possibility of looking at Daniel's on Saturday? Spring like temps!
Re: Woodstock Sunday afternoon Dec. 12th
More like Sunday morning, or Pulpit Sunday afternoon, as the fcst looks weak in the afternoon at Woodstock. Bacil

Very dynamic front, not sure that our options will be clear until Sat night or Sunday AM. At the moment, the ADDS 3k seems to favor WS, with some color in NoVA throughout the day. But if the front blows through super-quick, could get really light down there. Who knows?

Pulpit bound tomorrow. Looks good after 1P. Bacil
Re: Woodstock Sunday afternoon Dec. 12th
I decided to bail on today: Probably too W at Woodstock, and can't hang around for a late-day flight at the Pulpit. Hope that things work out for those who go!
Re: Woodstock Sunday afternoon Dec. 12th
I loaded up the glider about 8:40 AM and then I asked around if anyone was coming to Woodstock. After seeing no interest, I waited as I knew a bunch of PG'ers were going to WS.
I reached LZ at 11:15 and it was blowing. Holfuy looked good too. Got to launch about 11:35 and then slowly started setting up the glider. Between 12:15 and 12:30 it was gusty with luls so I decided to wait a bit. 12:45 PM the luls were lasting longer so I decided to go for it instead of waiting longer as the FC showed weaker conditions. Being the only HG pilot at launch with at least 5 PG pilots, I asked two PG pilots to just hold my wing wires (even though it was light) for being proper and prudent. And then I launched. As soon as I launched, I could tell lift was dismal and it was west cross. So, I turned left to make use of whatever lift I could find. The only little lift was west of the finger which leads to the LZ so I circled did figure of 8s and stuff, making use of the gusts to keep me from sinking. It was constantly scratching to say the least (it was fun) as I barely made it over launch but hung in there. Eventually it got too light and I made it to the LZ. In a window of less than 5 to 10 minutes before I landed, 4 PG pilots landed too.
So overall it was good and fun. Oh yeah and it wasn't cold!

I'm glad you got to fly Bari!
The forecast definitely seemed like a gamble, but "you don't know if you don't go", right? I've done the same many times, sometimes rewarded with a soaring flight, sometimes not. Good for you!
If you believe the weather stn readings, conditions at the Pulpit seemed strong but doable late in the afternoon. Hoping to hear that there was flying up there as well.

Well there was no flying at the Pulpit because nobody showed up, other than me. So I turned around and headed for Smithsburg, where I knew I would find Anthony and his student Mike. Jim Crocker came out w/ his PG, and local legend Eddie Miller made a late appearance.
