Pulpit Saturday May 1st

Post by XCanytime »

Looks really good from noon on. Winds clocking around from NW to WSW on the surface in HGR. Looking to enable a 1st mountain flight in the late evening for one of Anthony's students. Should smooth out nicely and be soarable til sunset. Need pilots to come out and play. Bacil

I am looking forward to flying this Saturday at either Pulpit or Woodstock.
To be decided Sat 10:00am...

But based on the weather forecasting I just saw, Pulpit seems to be the best bet.

My completely unreliable and almost mindless prediction: Rock-n-roll in the afternoon.

Good morning,
Is the Pulpit going to be really good today or just marginal? I'd like to come fly if it is looking like a really good day for a first flight there. It is a 3 hr drive so I've got to commit by around 9:30 and get on the road.

Thanks,
Aron

ETA 12:30

Aron, conditions might be "both." It looks like a reasonable call although there are no guarantees. "Lighter" winds by Pulpit standards (<22mph) and punchy thermals expected this afternoon. Chance of glass-off later.

Also a chance to fly Elizabethville on Sunday 5/2.

Fantastic day @ Pulpit!
Charles had an outstanding XC
Allan flew for hours.
Will from PA also few for hours
Bari has his 1st flight from the mountains
I had a great launch & landing. Flew for 40 min. Got tired & landed in the main LZ.

Launchable and flyable all day. Short version:

Launched after Will and Allan. Flew with Walt and he looked great in his new Sport 3. Punchy down low. Played up and down for a while. Finally got a nice climb to 6K+ and drifted towards Chambersburg. Just nice air but blue conditions. I was tempted to go to High Rock, but settled for an easy retrieve at Franklin County Airport. Landed in the parachute LZ and they all cheered when I pulled off a perfect two stepper. I just walked nonchalantly and taxied behind the hangers to break down. Friendly crew there. JR can repack HG parachutes if interested.

Congratulation to Bari on his first Pulpit launch.

I heard that a pilot (power plane) violated P-40 today. A jet was scrambled. Anyone know more info? They heard it on unicom at the airport.

Overall just a fun flight. Thanks to Walt, Rich and Bari for launch help. Thanks to Walt for the quick retrieve. Stats: 6122ft MSL and 1:51hrs.

It was awesome at launch. Got to see some top notch flying and I got to fly too :)

Many thanks to Bacil for walking me the LZs, and going over "every possible" scenario! It was strong at launch, Walt and Rich were on my wings, and Bacil on the nose. Just before I said clear Bacil came to my starboard side, and said you got this.

I had a soaring flight. The air was active, I hit a few micro but super punchy thermals and they got me well over the launch. Crabbed for a bit on the ridge, after a while decided to land and had a two or maybe 3 stepper landing. Bacil had just gotten there and Rich joined too for the retrieve and then we headed back up.

Everyone was still there (except for one), brilliant day.
