Monday looks promising, but zero chance of taking leave that day. Bummer :(

I'm trying not to look. But wow, sure seems like it could be an ideal HG+PG day tomorrow. Just a forecast of course, but d@mn, if I could get away....

Anthony and I are meeting at the bridge field at 1pm. I think it will be flyable for HG and PG a little later.

Interesting day at Woodstock. I got there at 11:30 and got set up and launched just after noon in an ok cycle. When I cleared the slot I was surprised at how left cross and light it was. I worked my way south but only hit a few pops. I was so low I turned back north to see if I could salvage the flight near launch. By this time I was about 100 ft below launch so I decided to follow the finger out to see if I could find anything there. I hit sink all the way out and barely made the LZ even with VG pulled to a C note tightness and toes pointed. I didn't even have enough altitude for a single turn and I came in right at tree top height. Pulled of k landing but not pretty. John M gave Anthony and me a ride up. John Mc. had just launched and was climbing out. Joe S, Steve K, Walt, Anthony, Barry, Rich, Tom C and Felix there and waiting. A few launched and had great flights. A few, not so much. I set up again and launched at about 3:00 pm into much better velocity and direction and was able to fly for about 1.5 hrs and climb to 4998 ft. MSL at the second finger north of launch. All in all a good day and nice to see so many pilots out on a week day no less.

Many thanks to Antony and Joe who helped me take off, Gary for paying for the beer, and Steve for helping me set up the glider and body ride.

It was a beautiful day! It was my 1st flight from the montains in 2021.
I am glad that John pushed me to go...
I had a nice take off, a good flight (not very long), and a B landing...
Given the fact the wind was changing a lot, I decided to land on the other side of the road (and not in our official LZ).
Since the fence was removed, this other field is great and have a nice "hill" at the end.
I did a DBF above the trees, and a good final. However, I did not flair strong enough and had to run... I might have gotten a little North breeze (not sure) and the glider was running faster than I and I endeup using my new nice wheels...

Spend a good time breaking down the glider. Steve gave a nice body lift to the mountain. Got my car and helped Antony who landed in the old LZ.

Finally, Gary and I went to the brewery and had a deserved great time.

Regs, Walt

Gary thanks for the report. Goes to show that there are no guarantees in reaching the main LZ in sled ride conditions, even w/ a high performance glider w/ VG full on and thinking pointy. 3 weeks ago a PG pilot had the same experience at Woodstock. Flew along the same finger above the power line clear cut, hoping for an elevator ride along the way to enable them to reach the main LZ. Ended up barely making it into a back yard shy of the PG LZ. There is the flood plain on the right side of the river, nicknamed "Idaho" for its shape, that is a good bailout option. It has been used by PGers that have not been able to make the main LZ. Bacil
