Smithsburg Sunday Jan. 24th

Post by XCanytime »

Looking to get out to the training hill. Gonna be cold but the winds look light, cutting down on the wind chill factor. May be a student or two training. It will be a year ago this Sunday that Kobe Bryant's helicopter went down in IMC conditions. Bacil

I'm 50-50 on a practice day tomorrow at Smithsburg. The latest NWS sfc hourly doesn't call for hard-W until about 1pm, which is much improved from yesterday. Will decide Sunday AM.

I'm in for Smithsburg, been looking at the FC since start of the weeks. Now just have to decide what time I should be there.

The NWS 'cast is currently calling for light WNW@5 conditions until about 1pm, then going W. West can be 'doable' at Smithsburg, but my advice would be to plan to be flying by 11am. That should allow for a least a handful of flights while the wind direction is good. If you're motivated and hope for more flights, you could aim for a 9am or earlier arrival I suppose.

Conditions look fairly light, so be prepared for some strong runs!

I'm still on the fence, mostly because of that 35-degree high.

I was targeting 10AM as well but my hands are freezing while setting up the glider on the roof rack so, I'm taking a tiny break :) will finish setting up by 9 and then head out. So, should be there by half past 10.

See you there.

Good day at Smithsburg. Bari, Eric, Alex, and Anthony all got multiple, good flights in. Looking forward to the next cold training day at Smithsburg. Bacil

It was a good day :)

Bacil, thank you for all the support and company. Anthony, you're a good instructor! I can't wait to see lines to gliders on top of the hill to launch. Well, we had 4 today but more the merrier.

Sliver Wings is only working with previous HG piliots and H1 or H2s that are current CHGPA Club members. I'll provide an update when that policy changes.

Glad to hear that it was a good day at the 'burg yesterday. I couldn't quite get myself motivated, but I *do* try to get out for one or two practice days every winter. So hopefully I'll join-in on the next opportunity!
