Smithsburg Weekend 1/9/21 - 1/10/21
Let's try again. Cold and NW 10 MPH or less is the extended outlook. Looks like a pretty good opportunity (as long as it holds) for a training hill weekend. I hope to help out if some students show up at the hill. Bacil

Arrived at Smithsburg just after 10A and set up the customary windsocks. Mike the student showed up before 11A, and Anthony + his brother Eric just after 11A. Pilot Tim Hurrlinger showed up around 1P. Eric did 10 runs on flat ground, Tim did 2 flights, and Mike the student got in 4 flights. The last flight was marred by a crosswind landing where a mild flare w/ a wing up resulted in a slow boomerang and moderate whack. A little bit of mud was slung, and pilot was OK. Bacil

Mike is a H2 from VA. He did 5 flights. One towards the bottom, one near the top and 3 from the top. On his last one I was at the top helping him when I should have been on the radio at the bottom guiding him into the wind. Even though he agreed that he would be ok. The same thing exact thing happened to another H2 a coupe of weeks ago. I've learned that I need to stay at the bottom on the radio anytime a pilot requiring assistance is flying. Only if I were two people then I could be at the top and bottom at the same time. I also had a nice flight on the same F2 195 Mike was flying. I don't like giving a play by play summary of a training hill day but a big thanks to Bacil for his insight that he shared. I also had one no show so I learned how that feels.

Too extreme for H2s so we bailed.
