Pulpit Saturday Oct. 16th

Post by XCanytime »

Unless another hurricane screws up the long range forecast, looking west next Saturday so far. Looking for a late PM flight after working in the AM. Gonna be 60- degrees, so layer up. Bacil

I am wanting to fly either the Pulpit or Woodstock on Saturday depending on which looks the best and where other people are going to. This is Wednesday and it looks like both places are going to be good. So who is in, and for which place?

At this point in time the Pulpit looks the best. Doesn't mean that that's where most will end up. I will be at the Pulpit. Bacil

Though the 'cast is a bit light for Saturday, I still threw the glider onto the vehicle. Fingers crossed, maybe a weekend flyable day!!!

I'll be there around 11:00 or so. I think it's going to be at least 10G15 on the ramp, if the pattern of other recent days holds...

Big air at the Pulpit on Saturday 17, 2020. Even though the wind was light at launch the conditions were strong. I got to 4760' MSL could have gotten higher if I wanted to. I had lift of 820' per minute climb rates and sink rates of 990' per minute. I did get an hour and 44 minutes. Flew down the ridge a few miles to the left of launch back and forth.

I agree with Allan. It was good air but the thermals were narrow and there was sink between them. I was up then down to ridge level a number of times. After about an hour of that, I blundered into a good climb that took me to 6500 msl. The embarrassment of heading upwind to the ridge was greater than my fear of going over the back, so I flew downwind into the valley and had a nice flight. I zig zagged around the valley just having fun and flew with a peregrine at one point. I had a nice landing a mile or two north of Greencastle and Bacil picked me up before I could even begin breaking down. Thanks for the ride to launch Bacil! Overall, it was a fun day and my first XC of 2020.
