Woodstock Fri04Sept
Though it's a bit of a gamble.... There are some encouraging signs for a flying day at Woodstock by mid/late this afternoon. I know Gary plans to be there, and I'll be doing the same provided the forecast updates later this morning don't tank.
Re: Woodstock Fri04Sept
SFC max has been knocked down to 7mph. 3K ADDS does show 15-20 NW slowing filling in for N Virginia, by 5-6pm. Might go magic I suppose? Still on the fence, but Gary and Knut are definite.
Re: Woodstock Fri04Sept
Great late flight at Woodstock today.
Arrived at noon and waited till 6:15 PM before it turned on.
Many PG pilots flew during the day and hangies,John Mc flew a sled ride, due to dinner commitments.
It was not before after 6:15 PM it turned on.
Forecast completely screwed up,
Though, for does that waited, it payed off.
Mark C and I flew with 5-6 PG’s.
Some of us flew up to Strasbourg and back in fantastic conditions.
We all landed right before it got dark.
Personally got 49 minutes.

52 minute flight, landed a bit after sunset. Sweet, magic air.
Almost didn't happen : Had started to unload the harness of bags/etc (glider still not even close to set up) when things changed for the better at 6:15. Quickly reversed course, and was in the air by 7pm or so. Topped out about 500' over, cruised a little S and a little N, landed in the reverse direction because it had gone catabatic.
Big thanks to Gary for sticking around to help with my launch (well, encouragement mostly, after some brief gusty winds it had started to lighten...), and to Knut for the ride back up.
Though short, that was one of the sweetest flights I've had in a damn long time. Will post a pic or two in a few days.

Here are a few framegrabs from the video as I headed into the LZ on Friday at Woodstock.
