3 Stooges takeoff shows the value of wheels
Last Saturday a few of us went to Smithsburg to practice takeoffs and landings. Charley took a video of my first attempt at flight. With all the stuff going on at the moment some comic relief is welcome. The video has some comedy in it (to me at least) with the kickup of the the lime dust cloud but also shows the value of pneumatic Finsterwalder wheels when the glider encounters a wind gradient and loses lift?, the ground gets in the way ?, the glider's not ready to carry my weight , (and I can't run as fast as I could 20 years ago ). Enjoy the video and comments are welcome. Here is the link: https://vimeo.com/398126027 Bacil

Thanks for sharing. I see the wind is very light on your attempt. Your nose angle is good and you are giving it a decent run but not as near as fast as you would have a number of years ago. Either wait for more wind or go from a steeper part of the hill would have allowed success in your attempt. It was great that you had wheels or it might had ended bad!

Thanks for the comments John. Yeah no wheels would've ended badly for sure, with a high speed impact with something solid. Bacil

Glad you didn't get hurt! Wacking prone sucks. My shoulder tells me that every morning at about 1:30. You only have 2 choices: eat less cheese burgers or wait for more wind. Awesome to see you killing it at Smithsburg this year!
