(Cold!) Flying Sun19Jan? Or Monday?

Post by markc »

Almost hate to suggest it... But then again, there was a day when I would scoff at temps only as low as the thirties... So in that spirit, is anyone else eyeing a flight on Sunday?

Pulpit seems like it will be blown out, and I'm a bit skeptical that the WS effect will materialize... But at the moment, WS seems like the best option, with winds WNW (better than last weekend's forecast), and a hint of winds backing off by day's end. Cold though!!!!

Trying to decide how air-horny I really am  Would also consider Smithsburg for a practice day, but I suspect it would be too strong to get much out of it.

I am looking at Monday. Lighter winds so the chance of having flyable conditions is higher. I would likely still look to Woodstock but am still looking at forecasts.

Yeah, I see that the latest ADDS 3k forecast is now calling for a bit of an increase at/past sunset on Sunday. Winds aloft on Monday seem a bit N, however.

Similar (cold!!) temps both days. And I do have Monday off, so no problem there.... I could possibly be convinced if there's enough company for the misery

I think the Woodstock road is closed because of ice.

It does look north. However, I now have a family obligation so I am out anyway. Good luck if you go.

No update on the road as of yet.... Kinda/sorta wish that today would have been possible. But then again, I'm not quite air-hungry enough to hike the wing up the back! :D

Still giving tomorrow some consideration in spite of the N cross later in the afternoon... Anyone else want to give it a go?

Even if the road was open... Sfc forecast now calling for NNE (was still NNW at 7am, go figure). Another time!

Yeah, checked the readings from the tower and at Front Royal later in the day... Looked like pretty good direction all darn day! Woulda been PO'd if the road had turned out to be open after all.
