Earlier today the forecast was looking a little strong for the Pulpit, but the latest forecast is looking better, in the 9-10 range at 12-1pm. I will be going to the Pulpit tomorrow. I think it will be a good day. Going to try to get a driver.

Looking good for Pulpit tomorrow.
Will decide tomorrow morning.
Really tired after only one day off for the last 10 days. Might just have to rest, we'll see.

Just got out of bed. I'll be your wireman and retrieval.

Got to the Pulpit around 9:30A. Sky looked great and conditions were cross for most of the time from the north on the newer ramp. Just as I was unzipping the bag to start setting up the glider I heard a loud rumbling noise coming from the bar area. Thought it was an 18 wheeler losing it but looked up and lo and behold an A-10 Warthog was not but 150' above me knife edging a high G turn to the north  . Thin contrails extended from his wingtips as he carved the turn towards Knobsville. What an awesome sight and sound. My day was already made :) . In the next two hours Dave P., Knut sans glider, Blaine, Anthony, and Charley showed up. I wasn't enthralled with the cross conditions, and was fatigued, so I broke down. Conditions improved, with straighter air up the ramp, enticing Dave to have a nice launch from the ramp around 1:30P. Conditions looked smooth in the air watching Dave climb up everywhere he flew. Dave confirmed the nice conditions on the radio. Charley got on the ramp, and it was a bit swirly for some time. But he chose a nice cycle and had a nice launch, getting up easily. Charley and Dave flew out into the valley down by 16, with Charley going in to land at the back of the main LZ due to a shift in wind direction to the north as he was on final for Runway 27. Dave caught a thermal and took it OTB, getting to the Chambersburg area before running out of air. Knut retrieved Dave with Dave's car, I retrieved Charley w/ his car, and Blaine dropped off Anthony's car in the main LZ and placed streamers at the end of Runway 27. I hit the road at 4:30P, as Anthony was waiting out the strong conditions. Hope he got to fly. Bacil

Turned out to be a good day at the Pulpit. Bacil was there and set up when I arrived a little after 11. Knut showed up shortly after. I set up and checked out the ramp. Looked cross from the North, but the cloud tracks were not showing much cross. I was the first off around 1:30. Got a good cycle and launched off the new ramp. Lift was pretty good. Charlie launched about 15 minutes later. Charlie and I chased lift lines out into the valley. Charlie was doing well but elected to land. I caught a decent thermal and took that one over the back. I topped out around 4900 MSL. Base was much higher. Coming up on Chambersburg I was just dribbling along in light lift at about 1700-1800 MSL. Knut had come out sans glider to work wire crew and retrieval. I didn't want to punish Knut with a dribble across the valley. I finally went on glide to a nice field SW of Chambersburg. Had an OK landing. Did a run-out landing and just couldn't keep up with the glider and had to set the control frame down as I stopped. Knut showed up before I had completed my break down. Big thanks to Knut for the retrieval. Short flight but felt good to be back at the Pulpit. We got back to launch and Anthony was still set up waiting on the wind, which had picked up. Anthony had a wire crew so I hit the road about 4:30.

Good day and nice clear sky glass off evening at the Pulpit Saturday! I should have showed up a little earlier and got setup faster so I could chase Charley. After hearing stories about a low flying military plane I'm glad I slept in. Bacil the weatherman called it again!
