I have Monday free to fly. Very early, but certainly does look inviting!

Looking into the possibility of trading a work day this weekend for a flying day Monday..... If things continue to look good. Count me as maybe at this point.

I've swapped some Monday tasks for Sunday.... So I'm now 75% for WS if the forecasts stay solid :D

In!!!! Will be able to help with the shuttle from the LZ up to launch. Ideally, we need vehicles capable of a multi-glider load, both in the LZ (for the return) and up to launch.

Alternative: Drop a vehicle over the back (or at the airport! :D ). But that eliminates the out-front option, and I'm not sure any forecast is *that* solid....

Aim for a 10:45 rendezvous?

It will be an easy run to the airport. In the words of Broadway Joe, I guarantee it :D . Have safe flights. Bacil

I would *love* to drop a vehicle at Front Royal and declare that as our LZ!

But then..... Ya got nothing out front, in the event that conditions don't cooperate. And the odds of a party near the airport on a Monday seem a bit long

Happy to discuss options tomorrow though!

All current casts are indicating that all of the NW facing Massanutten ridges will be soarable all day. Haven't seen that in a long time! My ETA at launch is 8.

Despite the shoe hiccup and other minor issues, it was a wonderful day.
It was a little colder than Friday (May 24).
A lot of thermals, lift all over the place, and a good number of HG pilots flying around.
Flew for 2 hours, got 5300 feet above the ramp but did not dare to XC (no shoes :( ). I also had an issue with the harness and I had to fly with legs floating around creating a extra layer of fatigue.

My landing was very frustrating. I should have stayed longer on the air waiting for better conditions (less thermals on the LZ). My DBF was poorly planned and did turn to the final away too low!!!! Fortunately, I was luck and landed on my wheels.

My beloved colleagues (Gary, Joe, John M., Mark, and Weber) were again very kind and helped to break down the glider and Weber gave us a ride to the top mountain. Unfortunately, he did not planned the trip well and did not have ANY cold beer to share with us... He promised to do better next time.

Fantastic day at Woodstock. Flew up to high Knob and tapped it, flew back to the launch. Continue over to Short mountains and all the way down to my Massenuten in less than ~2 hours (2:17). Solid ridge lift and could easily get up to 5000 feet. Though, it was cold, so I stayed lower most of the trip.
Despite having full VG during landing, lucky me, had a good landing.
Got in touch with Ward that landed a few miles away from me and together Kurt drove us back up to the Woodstock bridge LZ.
His son Ryan, drove us back up to launch. Than a long drive back to south of Massanuten to pick up the wing in darkness in a field. Was not home before around midnight last night.
Thanks for all the help at the launch and I'll post a video and some flight logs ASAP.

Yes, it was the kind of day that we need many more of to make up for last 12 months. As the forecasts suggested, yesterday’s conditions were ideal. Knut and I had the same plan to fly up to the north end of the Massanutten and then back down to the southern tip and beyond. There were many large thermals with climb rates frequently above 700 fpm and a few strong cores with moments of 1,000 to 1,100 fpm. I had two significant climbs: the first was my highest starting just north of the ski resort that took me to just over 7.2 K MSL and one nice save during a landing pattern at the southern end of the Shenandoah valley.

John McAllister and I met at the LZ at 2:30 and ended up launching around 4:15. It was still quite good. My first thermal took me to 5700 msl and my second went to 6700. My max altitude was 7500 but John got higher. It was fun crossing the Edinburg Gap at over 6000' - no much of a pucker factor for once. Landed in the main LZ and hiked up to get my car. It took 45 minutes to hike up (without my harness) and 45 minutes to drive back to the LZ, in case anyone else is thinking of hiking up. What a great day.
