Quest National Week 2

Post by krryerson »

Sunday, April 21th:

Great weather here in Florida and looks like we'll get 5 days flying, week 2.
Made a raw, un edited video yesterday (Sunday) of the efficiency crew, my towing and thermaling.

Too long to watch it all, but if interested, check the crew in the beginning and fast forward.

Monday flying, April 22:
Sports class, 2nd day, second task: 55km.
Great day and got to turn point two, after 2 hours in the air. We flew 6-7 sports pilots together, which made it really fun. But still challenging.
Lift avarage 400 fpm and we topped out around 5k. Decided to tank up before tagging 2nd turnpoint, leaving the gag. Lost my thermal and had to land. By then, most sports class pilots landed. Seems like the day started to stop thermaling.
By the time we made it back to the airport, open class pilots started to rain in.
Amazing that some of them made over 100km on a blue day like this.

Short Edited version from Sunday, showing the active crew. This might be interesting to watch.

Short video from yesterday. Might be nice for the pilots watching this too.

Today, Friday we got some rain, so no task today.
Though, 6:30 PM now and really nice weather.
Have now had 5 out of 6 days flying at Quest National week 2, and expecting to have the 6th day flying tomorrow.
Wednesday and Thursday was great. Got high and are getting longer XC flights for every new task.
Are sharing a house with Chip, Phill B and Jeff C. From Main and California. Amazing pilots that are every day among the 5-10 top pilots in Open class. Can't ask for better mentors after flying.
As always, like to share some video's and made this one from Thursday's flying and more.

Thanks!
Needed just 9 more km to get to goal. At 6pm things really started to shut down.
Long stretch over forrest had it so I could make it with about 3k high or minimum 1800 feet. But never got that high in the end.
Still a great flight and was airborne over 3 hours.
Conclusion; 6 days of flying at Quest and flew more in one week then I did for a whole year.
Can't ask for more.

Helped converting this video to a MP4, using the Insta 360 one X .
Did some modifications, using the editing program, movavi, and here is the result.
Got permission to post this video from pilot.
Enjoy!
