Mon18Feb : President's Day Flying Day?

Post by markc »

Hesitate to start a thread about Monday flying given that I don't yet know if I can commit (will depend on how work stuff goes this weekend)... But I'm seeing some encouraging forecasts, so figured it can't hurt to bring up the idea, right? :D

At the moment it looks a bit strong to the north (Pulpit) and a bit west to the south (Wstock). Too early to say how things will go, but is there some interest out there for a flying day?

I'm doing taxes in the morning and could make it to Woodstock by 3-3:30.

Not hearing much enthusiasm
The ADDS 3k is calling for more NW as the day goes on. Sfc seems more WNW->NW than west. That's all good.
Definitely looks strong, the Wstock-Effect would be needed.
On the down side, the sfc 'cast now has G20+ right up until sunset. The chance of snow showers in the PM implies strong post-frontal conditions. Hmmmm...... Definitely a late-day day, if it happens.
I think I could get motivated if there are a couple other optimistic pilots out there!

Hi Mark

I was looking at it but it looks strong to me - plus the possible precipitation made me worry about the road being closed. All in all, I decided I would do family activities. But thanks for posting - I would not even have looked otherwise.

Have fun if you go.

Road closed? Hah, we scoff, and will haul our gear up the road like we did when.... We were 10 years younger

Grrr! Latest sfc 'cast is now calling G21 on Monday night at WStock. Unless there's a big change by 10am tomorrow, I will probably pull the plug.
Will be checking forecasts early AM. If the gust factor is pulled back, with lighter conditions in the last 1-2 hours before sunset..... Might be worth the gamble. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for the heads up Anthony!
I'm going to wimp out.... If it were a warm spring day, I'd probably feel differently. Ditto if the forecasted G20+ diminished prior to sunset.
Next time!

You made a good call Mark. Still blowing at 20+ here, completely decked over with clouds and spitting snow.
