Daniels Launch info (IMPORTANT)

Post by silverwings »

There has been a lot of talk about the problem of the trees at the bottom of Daniels launch area. Everyone was assuming it was owned by the property owner of the lot below launch. I was able to lookup the lots that Daniels launch is located in via https://www.webgis.net/va/Greene/
It is owned by RITENOUR ROGER. Using GoogleEarth
It is very clear to me that the trees causing us problems are in his property and he has allowed us to maintain the site! Thus we could cut them down!!!

The bottom intersection of his two lots are:
N 6796014 E 11479405
Lat 38° 18’36.7”
Lng -78° 30’44.1”

I have a word document that shows it but it is to large to attach now.

Yes, Roger Ritenour has been an important contact for Daniels for quite a long time. In fact, one of the first site maintenance activities that I can remember was organized by Roger, and I think that some of the steps (erosion breaks, cement slabs) leading down to launch date from that effort.

It's been a while since I've seen him active at the site, so I can't really say where the boundaries of the site begin and end.... I usually use the old-growth trees (downed long before I was flying) as a reference point when doing site maintenance. But obviously it would be better to have better info than that.

I still think that clearing the slot laterally is more pressing.... But if we can get that done, then the trees at the base of the slot are the next obvious target. If they are all on Roger's property, then hopefully he'd be fine with topping/clearing.
