Hyner 4th of July

Post by brianvh »

A heat wave is coming, and Hyner is the cure!

That's about all I can forecast this far ahead - temperatures will be 5-10 degrees cooler up in the mountains. I held off on advertising Hyner last year because our landowner had created an unwanted pond, but the freeze-thaw cycle broke that up and things are returning to normal, except that we've taken down a line of trees to open up the approach to landing, making it less tight, more friendly to newer pilots and high performance gliders.

With July 4 in the middle of the week you never know who will be there when, but folks will be there the whole 10 days. Come on out and enjoy it! The mountain and the river are waiting.

Planning on arriving Thursday 6/28 and staying thru Sunday 7/1. Forecast looks probable for flying those days.

Yep, Friday does look good. My experience is the best flying at Hyner is right before I show up.

Hyner's a good place for PG, hope folks will come up. there will be people there clear through July 7. I'll be there Saturday through Thursday.

Hyner turned out good. I was the only pilot and I launched at 3:50, stayed above as long as I wanted and landed HG after 1:42 Flight. Tomorrow looks good, hope other come.

Hyner providing soaring for both HG & PG today. The longest HG flight was probably over 2 hours (not by me) and I had the longest PG flight of about 50 minutes. My HG flight was a sled earlier.

Hyner on Saturday did not do what the forecast was predicting of WSW but varied from N, NW, WNW, W and later more WSW. There were some good periods and quite a few HG's had some good soaring flights depending on when they launched and how well they worked. Toward the late afternoon it got very light. I was planning on flying my PG and was waiting for nicer conditions, then it got strongish so I set up my HG and then it got light and I ended up not flying. I should have flown my HG but I started to breakdown with hopes it would still be suitable for PG but then it got light and I gave up. It was pretty warm in the mid/late afternoon and that was draining. When we left launch around 5:45 there were some HG setting up and 1 PG pilot hoping to fly. The forecast looked very light for Sunday and more S, so we headed home.

As of Saturday July 7th, the Northeast Launch is re-cleared & widened, thanks to the efforts of SteveVan, Doug, Will, Spoons, Alan, Dee, and myself. Had a nice, if brief, soaring flight after the work party.
