Dan Buchanan

Post by XCanytime »

Just saw that Dan Buchanan, hang glider pilot and veteran of airshows for 30+ years, died after crashing today at an Idaho airshow. An eyewitness stated that he encountered low level turbulence that upended the glider, causing it to nosedive into the ground. Sad and tragic. Bacil

What a great guy and an inspiring personality. He will be missed by so many of us. Got to meet Dan in Knoxville in 1999 at the first joint USHGA / SSA national conference. My local Capitol club newsletter article about the conference (http://chgpa.org/skyline_jm2c/skyline/9 ... xville.htm) with photos of Dan (http://chgpa.org/skyline_jm2c/skyline/9903/k_faces.htm) was later republished in Hang Gliding Magazine. He offered to let me crew for him if I could make it to one of his performances. Sadly, I never connected with him at a show.

Most sincere condolences to all of Dan's many family, friends, and admirers.
