Woodstock, Thursday 11/16
Four days out but multiple forecasts are suggesting ideal wind direction, speed and temps during the afternoon.

Looks like the retired folks and those who are off from work could and should enjoy a relatively warm flight. I'm looking to fly over the WV ANG F-86 Sabre on final for the grass strip right of Runway 28 at FRR. Bacil

Hourly has it strong WNW until 1P, then a nice gradual dropoff until sunset. I'll be there early. Bacil

Tomorrow’s predictions are suggesting conditions outside of my comfort level but will come out in the afternoon to help with takeoffs and retrievals.

Looks very tempting to me, esp later in the day.... I gotta get fired or something, sigh.
Re: Woodstock, Thursday 11/16
Got to launch at 11:15A. Moderate conditions on launch, with a west cross above as indicated by the black vultures and ravens thermalling/frolicking about 1K' over out in the valley. By 12:15P I had set up and waited for the other pilots to arrive. At 12:30P Walt and Ward showed up, with Gary arriving 15 minutes later. By this time it had gotten stronger, so I decided to wait for the predicted throttleback around 3:30P. As we stood around and watched many freight trains blow thru, the NOAA weather radio station that is located near Hagerstown updated the forecast from West 15 to 20 MPH, G 30, to now a wind advisory until 6P, with winds West 20 to 30 MPH, G up to 50 . Once we heard that it was a done deal. Gary and Ward helped me break down the glider in the gusty conditions. Thanks guys. Of course as soon as I was almost done, it died down markedly. 15 minutes later it picked back up. The classic sucker lull. Gary and I grabbed some food and drink at Fox's Pizza in Strasburg. The joint has great food! Bacil

Guess I'm glad I didn't get fired then....
Sorry to hear it didn't work out though, bummer! Noticed a significant ramp-up in Bethesda around sunset, figured that wasn't a good sign.
Maybe we'll be lucky, and conditions on Sunday will back off at the end of the day.

Sorry it did not work out, but it is still a beautiful place to spend an afternoon. I was watching the conditions hoping for an after work run to Woodstock, but the Woodstock Tower weather station confirmed what you experienced. To quote an old cliche- "better to be on the ground than in the air wishing you were on the ground". See what Sunday brings??????

Sunday night maybe . It was a beautiful afternoon on the mountain. There are 2 "gulleys" 7" to 8" deep where runoff has cut into the lower part of the pad. A little shovel work would do the trick. Grass has grown on the upper pad, but the lower pad could do with some seedwork in the spring. Bacil
