Woodstock for Sunday 9/3

Post by silverwings »

The forecast looks fairly good for flying HG there on Sunday. XCSkies indicates good lift starting at 11 am and reasonable velocity. It does get slightly stronger later and only extreme with high altitudes. I am interested, who else?

John,
I am interested in Woodstock too, for tomorrow, Sunday.
As much as I would like to fly at Pulpit, Woodstock seems to me, to be the best option, for what I can see.
I'll be posting my final decision, early Sunday morning.

What about wind direction? Would be interested if the NAM and ECMWF models suggested a greater than a 250 to 280 degree direction during mid-day (IMHO, given the constent inaccuracies of GFS precidtions relative to the other above mentioned models - I ignor their BS). Looks like WS will be soarable tomorrow albeit with a significant turbulent west cross.

How did things turn out at WS on Sunday? Seemed like a pretty good chance of nice conditions later in the day....

Three of us HG pilots. One exciting launch and so so flight in very cross conditions and a stubborn cloud over launch all day. Things did improve a bit at 5:00 when John and I had gliders in bags on top with more sun. The zagi told me we probably should have waited it out.

Bummer! Was doing yard work in Rockville MD around 4pm, and things really seemed to change for the better, cleared out and the winds seemed more NW. Ah well.
