SAC late PM Saturday July 29th

Post by XCanytime »

Looks like a good opportunity to fly the SAC in the afternoon after the rain clears out. Due N @ 12 MPH for Harrisburg. Only good place to fly Saturday, so just do it. Bacil

Now looks precip free from 1P to 8P. That's all I need to see. Bacil

Now the precip free time has been moved back to 9A. Perfect. Make the trek. Well worth it. Bacil

Can't get away for a flying day tomorrow, but I agree, the best HG bet for the weekend is probably The Sac on Saturday.

ADDS 3K seems to be swinging more northerly in the afternoon, so could be a good day up there!

Got to launch at 11:45A. Cumies dotted the sky just to the west of launch, and the conditions on launch were moderate to strong, with plenty of straight in cycles long enough to launch in. Went down to check in w/ Joe. Karen was away, so I decided to not fly w/ just a one person crew. We chatted for a good hour+ before I left to torture myself some more up on the knob watching it blow straight in strong for a good 15 minutes. The cumies had dried up by this time. I decided to take the leisurely way home and drove along the road to Pillow and take in the scenery. Watched plenty of thermals cycle up against the mountain literally straight in as indicated by the wind lines in the cornfields and soybean fields. Took 225 to Elizabethville, 209 to Millersburg, then 147 to Halifax. Crossed the river to 11/15. Saw plenty of flags pointing due south in the fresh surface north winds along the whole way to Mechanicsburg. Will return tomorrow. Hopefully more than one pilot shows up (by default Joe). Bacil

Bacil, thanks for posting the flight track. Albeit a sled, your contribution provides us with a template for a safe primary LZ landing – not trivial.

Should be a “must watch” for all who fly the SAC.
