Blue Sky Aerotowing, Sunday, July 2

Post by krryerson »

Aerotowing at Blue Sky, Sunday, July 2, 2017.
We did Aerotowing at Blue Sky today and it was great going to a flight park again, after 2 years without Highland.
My first time at Blue Sky and really enjoyed it. Get in touch with Steve and see if you can come down next time, but coordinate it with Steve first.
Seems like it was very difficult for the Truck towing pilots to nail it today, but aerotowing, having Lisa towing us up to 2000 feet, seems to work today.
She towed me fare west and after a few, found some lift and got up. Max out at 3618 feet MSL and flew for 1:06 hours.
My best lift was 650 fpm over 10 second. The wind was also very light, so drifting away, was never a problem. The aero tow itself, was pleasant and good job Lisa.
Greg S. and Richard M. was there too, and 5-6 locals.
Special thanks to Steve and Lisa for making this flight possible and hope to come back soon.

Knut,
Always fun flying with you. Great job sucking up all the lift with the longest flight of the day!
Fun Video!

Wish I would have joined you.... The blue sky was limited for lift. It's too bad AT is only ocassionally available due to such lack of interest.

Awesome day at Blue Sky. We all flew to our heart's content. I had just over 3 hours and max altitude of 6400 msl. Great day with some strong climbs. I am sure that Knut will have more details - and pictures!

Lisa the tug pilot made the day by aero towing us. Thanks for coming out Lisa!

Steve wrote this on the blog:

“Well, its about 4:15 on Sunday afternoon....usually I am busy until much later in the day, but I only have time to write this message because there is no one left to tow....everyone is stuck to the sky at 5000 feet or so......so I am able to quit early today. Lisa was here to AT and I truck towed and everyone is soaring . Not sure when they will be down....some have been airborne for over 2 hours right now.... and counting.”

Flew for 3:11 hours. Triangle, west, north and south. Topped out a 5000 feet and was never lower than 1600 ft.

Seems like XCskies is more accurate these days, with the new algorithm and predicted that it would be a good Sunday at BlueSky.

Will edit my video, ASAP and YES, it was epic today.

Looking over all the flight data today. For does that are interested; was only 536 feet above landing, when I got a low saver. Further, was never as high as Tom that topped out at 6500 feet. Good job Tom.
Flew proximate a 10 miles ~triangle, but did not fly it completely 2 x times.
Having not XC from BlueSky before, never ventured too fare away and don't even know where to fly from there... .
