Chris Starbuck

Post by huddlec »

I met Chris down in Guatemala. He'd driven there in his van and was flying the sites there with those of?us on the Ole safari (he wasn't a participant of the tour, but a tagalong). Last time I?saw him was at?Ridgely this summer. He was attending that seminar on building your own sail plane (or ultralight?).?
?
He told me that?the accident that disabled him was while he was test?flying a glider (prototype) for a friend who was in the business of making them. He's an interesting guy. He has perfected 'living cheaply while having fun.'

Chris Starbuck used to use surgical tubing attached to his helmet. It was
attached to his caribiner and lead to the back of his helmet. Chris is
paralyzed from the waist down.

Chris was invovled in a hanggliding accident flying off of ( I think ) Mt.
Washington in New Hampshire . Flying seated...he impacted very hard on his
butt and became a parapalygic ( spelling...sorry ). We used to keel launch
him off High Rock using wheels. He was a fantastic pilot. I last saw him in
Cape Cod, Mass. around 1987.

Chances are that "prototype" could have been a Terry Sweeney or Tom Peginy
effort aka later to be know as "Sky Sports".....the only East Coast
manufacturer, unless you consider Ohio East coast in which you'd then have
to include Chucks Glider Supplies.

God I'm getting old. LOL
