scoping out new flying sites

Post by smurfsky101 »

So i've been staring at google earth for a little while looking for new places to fly...
Things that look promising at least from an aerial view

SSE Royal Orchards, Afton - VA @ 2299 Ft, 1693 vertical

SSE . Road access behind gate, very very very serious signs saying not to trespass
See background info on the property http://www.dupontcastle.com/castles/royalorc.htm . Obviously would be a one in ... never chance to get permission to fly there, but it does look interesting.

ESE Pasture Fence Mtn, Doylesville - VA - 2900 FT MSL, 1700 ft vertical

Didnt get a chance to drive by, but by air that pasture area does look launchable

Bucks Elbow Mtn, Crozet -VA - 3132 FT MSL, 2300 ft vertical

May be a gated road to get to the top
Here are some photos from the ritzy property up top https://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p983379

Flying Bergton w/ Randy the other week got me itching to discover someplace new to fly. I checked out Flattop today, and it's a goal of mine to fly there this spring, gorgeous view

NW Ravens Roost Overlook - Wintergreen Resort - VA 3200 FT MSL, 1900 vertical

Not sure if this has been done before, but might be doable

Ravens Roost VA was flown in the 70s and early 80s. Only went there twice. It was a cliff launch. When I was part of the KHK crew we drove from the Outer Banks to fly there. I remember very nice evening magic conditions. Always problems getting permission to fly and land there. That was 37 years ago.

I am sure some other pilots might have more details to add.
