Pulpit tree trimming this year

The power company sent us word that they'll be doing vegetation control next to the Pulpit property.

Over the coming year, trees will be marked and removed. Brush will be mowed. In the second half of the year, herbicide will be applied to recently cut stumps. All this will take place in the power line cut next to us. This shouldn't surprise anyone. If you're lucky, you might witness tree-trimming by chopper, though I'd stay out of sky in that case.

It's hard for me to envision the power company bothering to take out trees that we care about. I'd love for them to remove growth from in front of launch, but I can't envision that, either. Anyway, if anyone has any specific ideas or concerns, let me know.

If you have contact info for the power company, why not simply ask them if they might in fact be willing to do something? No harm in asking, and they have the manpower and toys with which to make short work of it.

Patrick has managed to engage a local power company to relocate the lines at Edith's Gap, at *their* expense. Whoa, that's great! So you never know..... Maybe with a bit of dialogue they might consider expanding the vegetation control effort beyond the immediate vicinity of the cut? After all, clearing hazards that could potentially snag a pilot could also prevent potential damage to their towers and lines.

How about some club member maintenance work party?

There is a dead tree next to the parking area and a few others that need to be preventively removed. It is large enough that only an experienced tree trimmer attempt the job. Briar and shrub removal from the pad area would make the area more PG and HG friendly. This could be accomplished by those of us who are less arboristically inclined. Last year the crew did a fantastic job at recovering and organizing the bench area. Thanks again!

I would also like to see our sign repaired and club info posted there. I will volunteer to do this since I think it is a problem. If anyone thinks it would be useful, just let me know. We should remove accumulated trash each time we visit. If people don't see a pile of trash, they are less likely to dump more.

A little ongoing maintenance is much better than trying to do a major project.

I was looking at the brush up at launch the last time I was there. I'd be willing to help in any way possible. I Thought about clearing some of the area but I didn't want to do anything that was approved. I'm not sure of what's allowed. I have a chain saw that we can use when it comes time to start clearing.
