President's Day Weekend

Post by kwagner »

Are there any plans for flying president's day weekend?

There is mention of the Pulpit but I was hoping for something closer to the DC area. I am unable to see the member's section on the chpga website but I know of Woodstock and Edith's Gap but have little information beyond that.

The weather at this point looks nice and mild though I am not aware of wind directions needed. Anyway, looking forward to getting into the air out here.

Welcome Klaus! I remember emailing with you last year when you mentioned that you're a P3 from Utah, but weren't sure whether you were moving to DC or not. Did you move or are you just visiting?

All sites are about 2 hours away, including the Pulpit. The Pulpit faces NW and that PG pilots typically don't fly it when the forecast surface winds are over 7-8mph because it tends to be windier there. However, Woodstock, Edith's Gap, and Daniels are all potential options.

I'm definitely watching the weather!

I am a DC resident! Living in Capitol Hill.

I have joined the CHGPA but it looks like I might need a few additional waivers and/or fees. Regardless, I am ready to go. Will be watching to see what plans develop.

Welcome to DC! I live close to you in Shaw. We're doing a club movie night this Friday at my place if you're interested.

Are you a dues paying member? If so I can send you the members-only login info.

You don't need any waivers for our main sites, but you may want to also purchase a Shenandoah National Park Special Use Permit to fly Dickey Ridge.
