I have not been in Daniels for a long time.
The temp sounds nice (above 40), wind direction and speed: SSW 10MPH
Thoughts?

I'm in. Been a long time since I've flown Daniels. Gary Smith is up for it. Randy's got a bead on it, and Mark C. is interested . Hourly for Charlottesville has a peak wind SSW @ 13 MPH in the PM. Bacil

'Fraid that my travel plans changed, so I can't be in for flying this weekend....

Daniel's tends to blow a bit lighter than forecast. It could be right in the sweet spot for HG and might be workable for PG as well.
Last I saw the site it had been cleaned up pretty nicely. It should be a good day for those who venture out. Good flying to you all.

Got to the launch around 11:15A to sunny skies and light conditions. The temperatures were in the lo 40's in the sun so it was quite comfortable. Walt, Randy Weber, and Gary Smith showed in the next 1.5 hours. At 12:45P the switch was thrown and lotsa noise started happening in the trees. So I launched and got up immediately in front of the slot. Soon after Walt joined me and had a soaring flight and an out landing under increasingly cloudy skies. The lift was "balance beam" lift so gains were to the 300' to 500' over range before the beam ran out. Found one "cohesive" thermal if you want to call it that and got the highest in the flight, 1K' over, drifting OTB a little bit into the valley behind launch. Randy joined me shortly after that climb. Flew around for a little while longer before going out to land in strong conditions on the ground. Walt had graciously placed a spinner windsock in the "west" field, and it was spinning like mad as I came in to land. Had a good landing and had to actively control the glider carrying it to the tree line at the edge of the field. By this time the sky was completely decked over. As I broke down Randy came in to land and ended up landing one field over from the "west" field. Gary ended up not flying and retrieving Walt from his out landing. Walt ended up retrieving Randy from his out landing. Randy and I hiked up part of the mountain after given a head start by Walt in his car. Thanks Walt! It was still soarable at 4P when we reached the top. Not bad for Dec. 31st. Bacil
