Pulpit Sunday 10/23

Post by A.Lloyd »

So far the forecast looks good for the Pulpit on Sunday. Are any observers interested?

Planning for late in the day flight Sunday. It is the only free time I have. Sorry, I am not an observer.

Here's a link to some local news I saw over the Summer. In the future, when hit with strong conditions at High Rock, OTB bailout to Fort Richie won't be an option. New Town 'Cascade Town Centre' unveiled.

Well, according to the article, the parade field is designated as a historical location and will not be developed.

Thanks for the correction. On another note, this past Sunday I stopped by Smithsburg Hill and sign still says closed. However, both the top and bottom of hill looks good with no crop. The hill itself has patchy but not too long of grass that they may get another cut of hay from.

Even if the field at Fort Richie is open, it is in P40 and not legal for us to land there.

John, looking at a Baltimore-Washington VFR TAC, the "populated' portion of Fort Ritchie and the Quirauk Mountain communications tower are outside of P-40. P-40 appears to be 4-mile radius of Camp David, so Ft. Richie is outside of the restricted area. So, if you launched from HR, stayed north of the communications tower, and bee lined it straight to the parade field you should stay out of P-40. BUT, any GA or glider pilots, please correct me if I am wrong.

Tim, I remember looking at maps one rainy day and convincing myself of the same thing. Maybe we're right.

Tim, you are correct. My response was based on my understanding a long time which wasn't quite correct. Thanks for checking it out.
