Well, it lasted only a bit more than five minutes, but I broke a long dry spell of no high flights with a light wind sled at Hyner on Saturday, July 2nd. Thanks to John M for the assist in launching. While I have been back to the training hill once or twice a year, my last high flight had been exactly two years ago, when I flew twice at Hyner at the 2014 Independence Day weekend party. Although I caught no thermals, I felt very good about my launch run which Jon verified, and dangit, I nailed my landing, which made me very happy. You can see the report on my flight(b)log with the YouTube video linked there. I'm back in the sky!

Other Hyner news:
1. The Statue of Liberty is alive and sparkly, and better endowed than ever. However, lesson of the year: stick with a metal bucket for the torch; plastic just doesn't work.
2.If you are a club member or think you need to be, be sure to read Brian V-H's e-mail to the membership, with information not on the Yahoo! Hyner Group. If you did not receive it because you let your membership lapse, e-mail Brian.
3. Sunday saw the first launches in years from the grass hill to the left of launch. Winds shifting SW and worse caused the decision by a few. A few of us were set up to go, but the winds got even worse, so Rick Rogers, Bunkhouse Bob (new ATOS!), and Dennis P (safe and easy Target), and I all broke down on top about 5 pm without testing that slope.
4. There was one tree landing and ladder truck extraction at the corner of the LZ. Pilot is unharmed and newly educated, although apparently the glider suffered from it's trip off the tree by rope descent. Join the Hyner group on Yahoo to read his report.

5. Most of the crew flew Pleasant Gap on Saturday the tooth, although Hyner did become launchable late in the afternoon. Soaring happened (but not by me), and Bunkhouse took his ATOS to 2K over for ~2 hours. Sunday the thurd was SW L&V, so while there was flying, it was mostly sleds, and early. Monday the Forth was forecast for pure SE, so those with a hankering to fly headed to Jack's. I have not seen any reports.
I drove home smiling on Monday!
