Flying Tuesday 5/24
Looks like it might be doable at either Woodstock or Pulpit on Tuesday. I am interested, any others?

Bacil's recommendation is the Pulpit but I think it may be on the breezy side. Woodstock will be lighter but also have good thermal lift. Will decide in the morning.

Decided on Woodstock. ETA 12 at bridge field. Tom McGowan is going to Cumberland, Walt cancelled because of sore foot. Eric & Anthony joining me there. Let's hope for the best. Some PG's probably coming.

That's mountain launch number two in the books.
I launched from WS into chunky, 8-ish mph wind blowing straight in around 3:30 PM. I was told my launch was good. I had a short but sweet 20 minute flight. I killed my flight by flying out over the valley in search of thermals instead of staying close to the ridge and soaring the ridge lift. There were clouds streets galore, but I don't have the experience yet to work them. I could've headed back to the ridge, but on my first flight a month ago, I cut it pretty close in getting to the landing zone. So this time I just decided to head out to have altitude to play around with my landing pattern. My downwind, base, final approach was OK. My landing was nice. Overall, a good learning experience, and I'm coming away with stuff to work on next time.

Launched at 12:35- landed a bit before 4 PM - was a fantastic day!
Thanks to Walt for letting me borrow his Sport 2.
Solid launch, went south after messing around in front of launch for a bit. Stopped short of the Edinburgh gap, turned around and flew north to Strasburg, then ridge skimmed back to launch.
Plenty of thermals and ridge lift everywhere, I really needed that after all the rain for the last few weeks

Re: Flying Tuesday 5/24
My schedule prevented me from setting up my hg and the wind began to back down when I needed to leave. However, on my way out I saw a paraglider in the sky. So aviation was committed. I will let the offenders tell their stories.

Congrats to Eric for now becoming a mountain flyer. Great job Eric and looking forward to fly with you in the near future. Think WS is one of the best local sights we have and love that mountain ridge. Unfortunately could not make it to WS this week. Being away for 10 days at Quest Air and now my wife is on a business trip. So, don't see myself getting any fly time in the next 7-10 days.

John D. I am glad u fixed the issue between my S2 glider & its speed bar : the pilot This glider needed to have a good pilot handling her : the poor girl has been suffering under my command.
I am glad that most of you had great flights yesterday. I saw that our fellow pilots from Cumberland had amazing amazing flights as well.
BTW, I finally decided to go to a doctor to check my foot: I will have to put aside my fly plans for a few weeks, since it will be hard to run & land with a cast
I hope to join you in July

Re: Flying Tuesday 5/24
I had a nice day at Cumberland Tuesday. Pete Lehman and John McAllister also had long flights. I landed at the airport in Front Royal, John landed SE of Winchester and Pete landed in Bealton VA for about 87 miles. Several other flew locally.
We had a very strong climb to 8k msl to start the flight but then experienced generally weaker climbs as we went down wind. The clouds generally worked but often with relatively weak and inconsistent climbs. Still, a fun day to be out flying.

Wow! Amazing flights. As Randy stated, “aviation was committed” and based on the offender stories the aviation was at the level of - how could I have missed a day like that?
Congratulations everyone!

That's some great flights you guys had from Cumberland. Way to go!
Let me know next time you guys head up to Cumberland. Would love to try out XC too, but don't see my self getting that fare.
