4th Annual Silent Airshow 4/9/16

Post by XCanytime »

North Mountain Vineyard & Winery will be hosting a Silent Airshow on Saturday April 9th, 2016. We would like to have on display Hang Gliders and Paragliders. XC flights to the winery have been achieved, with 2 hang gliders landing there from Woodstock during the 2013 event, and 2 paragliders landing there from Edith's Gap during the 2014 event. Last year's event weather was not ideal, but then again the event was held in May, where the frequency of NW/SE weekends diminishes. So with this year's event moved back to the 2nd week of April, well, you get the picture. Bacil

This is a really great time and worth the visit flying or not. On top of that if I remember right they've agreed to buy a glass of wine for any pilot who manages to land there.

Come on out. Bring you significant other and enjoy a springtime afternoon with a glass of some of the best wines I've found in Virginia.

Oh and one more thing, if you are enjoying the day say thinks to Bacil for getting the whole thing started in the first place.

The outlook for Saturday is another cold one BUT the planned flight(s) to the winery should be possible for those pilots that are qualified for XC. While the better halves will be enjoying wine by the fireplace inside the winery building, a quick run up to opposite Maurertown to stage for the upwind run of 4.5 miles to the winery should be pretty easy with the predicted breezy NW conditions for Saturday April 9th. It would be way cool if we have a bunch of pilots land at the winery between 2P and 5P. Looking forward to the flying and the festivities following. Bacil

Saturday's outlook has changed for the worse. Now they are saying windy with rain/snow showers to all rain on Saturday. But Sunday looks flyable. I will call Brad at the winery to discuss moving the flying/event to Sunday April 10th, and report back afterwards. Bacil

I talked to Brad the owner of North Mountain Vineyards. We agreed to move the event one day in time to Sunday, since the forecast is for slower windspeeds and decent direction on Sunday for flights from the Woodstock launch. If anybody wants to bring their hang glider for static display at the winery they are welcome to. In tandem with a static display PG kiting is encouraged also. By the afternoon the temps should be near 50 or above  . Bacil
