Pulpit Saturday 2/27
Well maybe the 3rd time is the charm ? Maybe the weather predictors will get it right this time. Looks flyable at the Pulpit this Saturday. Need some airtime. Anybody interested? Bacil

It looks promising. Hopefully, it will be waltable."Some clouds in the morning will give way to mainly sunny skies for the afternoon. High 44F. Winds W at 10 to 15."

Woodstock Friday or Pulpit early Saturday work for me. Just need to be observed.
Re: Pulpit Saturday 2/27
The road to Woodstock launch is most likely closed, and will be closed for a good while until the snow on the windward side completely melts. Being that it faces NW, it will take a while. BacilA.Lloyd wrote:Woodstock Friday or Pulpit early Saturday work for me. Just need to be observed.

Have fun at the the Pulpit! I'm out.
Re: Pulpit Saturday 2/27
Nice conditions later in the day. Bacil had a restorative flight over the back to the high school. Walt and I enjoyed the air afterwards. I had a quirky launch after being out of sync with the cycles. Note to self: Pay attention to the damn spinners. Enjoyable air, some birds and lift to 3k MSL. I poked my way out to the driving range after I observed that no one was there.
Some new interesting challenges at setup and launch. We were surprised to find a porcupine in a tree by the trail to the bar. Another was sunbathing in a tree below launch.
*FYI* We talked to the owner of the ranch house by the primary. He was very gracious and understanding, but he would prefer that we not use his driveway if possible, especially in wet conditions. He does not want mud on his driveway or have the dirt road messed up. We did not do this today, but he was concerned enough to tactfully talk to us. Walk your gliders down to the regular break down area and park there PLEASE. I have seen a number of pilots (some visiting) get into the habit of using his driveway. He mentioned that he had talked to us about this before, so get the message out to the rest of the pilots.

Re: Pulpit Saturday 2/27
Got to launch at 1:15P to find Walt Melo setting up in soarable conditions. When Charley Fager showed up at 3:15P I promptly launched in switchy, moderately strong condtions. Headed south against a significant WSW headwind. Got halfway between Rt. 16 and The Corner when I found a nice thermal to 2400' over. Went OTB and found only broken lift. Put down in a nice cut cornfield next to James Buchanan High School. Carried over to the front of the school for a nice wind block to break down the glider. Charley and my future son-in-law Rodolfo came and retrieved me. Thanks again Charley! Back at launch Rich Bloomfield, Tim Bowen, and I helped Walt and Charley into the easily soarable air. When I left at 5:15P Walt and Charley were easily soaring at 500' to 1K' over. Where were the pilots??? Bacil
Re: Pulpit Saturday 2/27
For those of you that did not get to fly here is a two minute video that is about a minute and forty five seconds too long (really it is). Sit back, relax and kick yourself in the butt for not coming out.
Re: Pulpit Saturday 2/27
my 2 cents.
I arrived at Pulpit 1:00pm: it was cold, cloudy, and windy
Bacil arrived later with Rodolfo. Then, Charles brought the good weather: it became sunny and warmer by 3:00pm. Bacil was a little bit impatient and took off with moderate winds (moderate to him of course!). He had fun!
I waited until 5:00pm to launch with the assistance of Charles, Bacil, Rich Bloomfield, Tim Bowen to take off with good winds. I flew for 30min, but since I was not able to reach Charles, I decided to land in the main LZ.
Special thanks to my wire crew and Rich for rescuing me.
I am looking forward to flying again with this nice group.
Walt.
P.S. cars are not allowed in the main LZ...
