Got my fingers crossed for SSW winds and sunshine. I haven't flown my bag in forever!

Heading to Daniel's.
ETA 1pm.
Probably sledders. But the foliage should be spectacular.

Re: Daniel's Saturday
Karen and I arrived at the LZ at 1:30pm to find Krista. She had had a one hour flight. Tom Cuenen had flown to Stanardsville. We gave Krista a ride back up top. It was completely decked over with fairly strong winds at launch. And then the wind just died! Randy was on launch and waited for a cycle. He worked valiantly once airborne-- but succumbed to gravity. Justin went next with a sled. Tom showed back up at launch as I laid out my wing. I waited for about 10-15 minutes for a cycle strong enough to launch-- expecting to take my sled like a man. I got a puff, pulled up, launched and turned right hugging the ridge-- and started to go up.
Long story short-- got 2.5 hours and 1200 over launch. Krista and Tom re--launched and I spent a lot of time flying with them. Karen got about a half hour. Randy re-launched for about an hour flight and Justin had another sled. The fall colors were spectacular. There really wasn't any ridge lift-- Just light thermals. I was surprised how good the lift was considering the complete cloud cover.
Karen and I stopped at Prince Michel Vineyards on the way home for a wine tasting and then a glass of wine outside watching the sunset.
A good day.

Re: Daniel's Saturday
Nice. It was a nice day to be outside, especially capping off a good flying day at a winery at sunset. My wife and I are going today to a winery near Crozet VA (not far from Daniels).
I highly recommend reading Pete Lehmann's article from the Hang Gliding magazine (around February or March of 1991 I believe) titled "Thermalling: The Key to Modern Hang Gliding". Pete describes thermalling in just about every safe sky situation possible, including complete cloud cover.
