High Rock 40th Final Preparations

Post by Matthew »

We have commitments from 15 persons for the party on Saturday evening. A few others are coming on Sunday-- and maybe one or two persons showing up Saturday afternoon who cannot attend the party.

I'm planning on accommodating 25 persons for food and drinks on Saturday evening as a few pilots from Hyner may attend.

Please bring something warm to wear on Saturday evening.
Please bring cash for the T-shirts and the Fly-In registration.
$20 for T-shirts and $25 for the registration. All proceeds go to Emma Jane.
A $15 dollar donation is suggested for non-pilots attending the party on Saturday evening.
Also bring headlamps... and any lanterns to help light the picnic area.

Saturday is trending towards very strong at HR for the brunt of the day. The Region 4 North sailplane comp has been going on at Fairfield this week. If it's unreasonable at HR, as an alternate mid-morning to mid-afternoon diversion, you are welcome to spectate at the comp. We've flown (and will fly) every day so far and Saturday is looking like a hoot with winds forecast to be NW at 15K gusts to 23K.

Come by the airport to check things out if you'd like. Google W73 for location; its at the SE base of Ski Liberty on Pecher Rd and about a 20 minute drive from HR.

NWS is not too reliable. It will be quite strong, guaranteed. Bacil

Way to be a party pooper Bacil!

ADDS actually shows it lighter-- 5-10.

Combining all of the sources I only see a chance of strong winds from around noon-thirty to 4.

I can show up at 9am if anyone wants to try to fly. I have to leave early in the afternoon to go to Shippensburg U. homecoming. Might not ramp up until later. I am sure that everyone will have fun regardless of conditions.

Karen and I plan to get there at 10am. So does Hugh.

I don't think anyone will be there at 9am.

Forecast is still 10-15 as of Friday evening.

Matthew,

If it's not too late, we have a box of paper plates, cups, and utensils we can bring.

Looks like the wind ramp up isn't till the latter half of Saturday now.

Best chance for a good flight is early at High Rock.

So what's the protocol for visiting pilots? I've flown HR a few times with the last one being the 30th Anniversary Fly-in, but I'm coming with a H3 pilot who has never been to HR. We'll go to the LZ first so he can have a look, but should we sign-in with Emma Jane while we're there or just go to the top and TCB with whomever is there?

The visiting pilot needs to meet Emma Jane and sign her waiver first.

Wind forecast backed down from yesterday but it will still be breezy. Now extensive cloud cover and rain in the cast. Check rusty cliff launch skills as part of preflight prep.

First turn point for the sailplane comp will likely be HR so please be aware of gliders. I've briefed the pilots about the flyin at HR.

See you guys later in the day.
