Thanks for spearheading the Fly-In effort Jeff, kudos to you!

Would you be able to periodically update the forum with feedback that you've gotten from FBook, the PG listserv, and direct emails? A sense of how many are participating/volunteering will probably help build momentum for the event.

Calls for volunteers for very specific tasks (bring a grill; bring a hand-washing station; bring charcoal; bring trashbags; bring firewood; bring a weedwhacker, etc) can sometimes work.... But sometimes you've simply got to lean on people, directly contacting them to ask for their help.

So come on people, make Jeff's life easier! Chime-in on whatever/however you can help out, to make this year's Fly-In a really fun time!

Mark-

So far we have 12 Yes (and 14 maybe) via FB, 1 Yes via Forum (you!) and 2 Yes via email. So that's 15 pilots thus far.

As for volunteering, here's what we have covered:
Mark C- Pyrotech
Matt I - Landscaping
Walt M - Cooler and Ice
Jim E - Retrieve Driver
Hugh M -- Odds and Ends
Bacil -- Meteorology Manipulation
Jeff E -- Task/Waypoints

I'm still looking for help with:
Porta-Potty
Community BBQ
Firewood

Thanks!

Great!

Sounds like there are plenty of oppts left for volunteers : grill, grilling implements, charcoal, trash bags, burgers/dogs/salads/etc, site cleanup (definitely more than a 1-person job!), cups/plates/cutlery.

So if you can help in some way, please let your fellow pilots know!

The pattern is looking good for next weekend. A buildup of heat and humidity all week will break on Friday w/ frontal passage and a 10+ degree drop in temperature from Thursday to Saturday. X your fingers that it comes to fruition. Bacil

I think we'll have use of the porta potty across the road. When I go up to weed whack this week, I'll hopefully get that nailed down. Maybe we can even get use of our neighbor's BBQ.

I have a medium-sized cooler I can bring. I can also bring a propane tank if it turns out that we'll have use of a propane grill.

I don't know about the weather for flying (but Bacil does!) but the weather for camping this weekend looks ideal. Get your gear ready and let us know who's coming! We'll have a grill, coolers, landscapers, pyromasters, and maybe even some good flying. More details to follow soon...

The weedwhacker uncovered some aged firewood in 5- and 6-foot lengths near the fire pit. A chainsaw might be useful.

Our neighbor across from the parking lot is letting us use his monster BBQ. It looks like it'll take a full bag of charcoal.

His porta-pottie is scheduled to be cleaned today and should be ready for our use.

Sheesh, I completely forgot that I'd stashed that away, years ago...Agree with Dave, a chainsaw is needed to cut it to size. That, plus the usual scavenging, would probably suffice for a decent bonfire.

I've config'd the forums to accept attachments with these five extensions, under the category of "Tracklog/Waypoint files" :

gpx, igc, kml, kmz, wpt

I think the max size is 500kb per attachment. No idea if that's realistic/enough, so please give the alternate formats a try Jeff, and let me know if you run into any problems.

Good to hear that the chainsaw is covered. Maybe it will see multiple uses during the weekend. :)

We'll make the weather call on Friday, since Saturday is clearly a non-fly day. If the forecast gets a little better, we could still go with a fun party Saturday night and have the chance to fly on Sunday. Stay tuned!

This morning weather.com has it WNW @ 13 MPH @ HGR for Sunday. And a high of 68 degrees. So HG very early or late at the Pulpit, most all day at HR, and PG/HG at Woodstock are the likely scenarios. Looking forward to Jeff's command decision this evening. Bacil

I've been waiting all day for the forecast to improve... and it hasn't really changed appreciably, although it is starting to settle on a faster passing but intense front with an inch of rain tomorrow.

Our goal is a fun social camping/party event, so my criteria for a good party has been <50% chance of rain at 6 pm Saturday, and we still don't have that (it is now at 60%).

But the good news is that Sunday could be flyable, for HG at Pulpit or HR and for PG at WS. SO as of now let's plan on everyone coming out to fly on Sunday and look to push the social/camping event to next weekend, when it is reasonable to assume we'll have better camping/socializing weather.

If the forecast is changed radically in the morning, or if there is a wave of dissent, we can revisit in the morning.

Hard to imagine a good-sized crowd heading up to the Pulpit after a rainy and miserable day, to enjoy a damp bonfire, setting up a dinner in the dark, followed by soggy camping (or a drive back home). Anyone who's got their sights set on flying will probably blow Saturday off and go wherever looks best on Sunday. So I think Jeff's call is a good one : Make an effort to get out and fly on Sunday, have a great time, and hope that next weekend provides an additional opportunity for fun!

Things could change for the better tomorrow I suppose... But ya gotta go with what you know, ya know?
