UPDATE: 2015 Annual Fly-In Aug 29-30/Sep 12-13

Post by eggzkitz »

The board met by conference call this evening and discussed the annual club fly-in.

We’ll discuss the details at Friday’s meeting, but the basic gist is that we’ll plan on camping at Pulpit on launch on Friday and Saturday nights, and make the weather call on Thursday night whether we stick with that weekend (Aug 29-30) or push to the contingency back-up weekend (Sep 12-13) based on the weather outlook. The goal for the fly-in is maximum turn-out and HG/PG socializing/camping fun.

Still looking for volunteers, so please let me know if you can help with below items.

Thanks,
Jeff

The goal of a maximum turnout combined with an event announcement that provides less than 4 weeks advance notice aren't exactly compatible. Especially during the summer. For myself: I already have plans for the first weekend that can't be altered.... If the weather doesn't cooperate, maybe I'll be able to make the second, that would be cool.

I've said it before, I'll say it again : Lead Time Matters for Fly-Ins

PS: I know this is hard to believe... But some of us don't have time for the whole F-Book thing. So you might want to consider invitation/reply/who's-going options for the non-F-Book crowd.

PPS: Our forums support polling, and I believe that the club officers are able to create them (will check). So one such poll could include options like "I am totally there!", "Hope to, but only maybe", and "Shoot, I'm SOL for that weekend"

DATE CHANGE: 2015 Annual Fly-In Now Sep 12-13

Post by eggzkitz »

Based on tonight's club meeting discussion and a vote among those in attendance, we've shifted the primary dates of the fly-in to Sep 12-13 in order to try and maximize turnout. Secondary/back-up dates will be the following weekend Sep 19-20. Still need volunteers to help with grill, coolers, etc.

We had this worked out a few years ago, but most of the current board was not around then, so let's go over it again:

F-Book is an intrusive and pernicious site, which folks in the privacy-sensitive part of my profession generally recommend against ever getting involved with. However, being realists, we know that the masses cannot resist its siren call. That said, to serve all of our community, it is incumbent on all club officers and supporting staff to avoid using F-Book as the only way to communicate with the membership. If you want to use F-Book as A means of communcation, fine, but PLEASE provide other less privacy-invading methods also, like for instance...
THIS WEB SITE!

Thank you so very much.

We use the CHGPA forum and facebook for maximum exposure. Not everyone reads the forum.

Please note that I've been consistently using all three available vehicles -- this forum, the yahoo email Listserve and the club's Facebook group -- to communicate for all posts and updates, and I was explicit in offering my personal email as an alternative to the non-Facebook crowd to RSVP at the outset...
We have an event on the Club Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/events/1625755121046211/ where you can RSVP, or email me at jeff.eggers@gmail.com......
For what it's worth, so far we have no RSVPs by email, none on this forum, and 18 RSVPs on facebook.

Thanks,
Jeff

Hey Jeff,

Thanks for the info but you forgot to include the other forum in your stats. You know, the ChgPG forum that’s off limits to HG pilots. I’m guessing zero RSVPs but if you’re going to include multiple communication platforms in your stats, you need to be inclusive – so how many?

Ward,

I assume you mean the Yahoo group. I included that in my "email" category, since the yahoo group is essentially an email listserve. So yes, the answer is the same: zero RSVPs by either Yahoo or direct email (although I've copied and pasted and sent each forum posting regarding the fly-in via Yahoo group email).

Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff,
Thanks for clarifying that you have kept the multi-contact routes open. I do appreciate that.
Also, you said

If you mean Kay's Happenings - no hack there. That is my wife's what-I-did blog, with at least some pics of me mixed into all her activities.

Let's try to limit the snarkiness-level people!

Some people love/hate FBook. Some people love/hate forums. Some people love/hate email lists. (Some people wish they would all just go away ;-) ). So unfortunately, there's going to be some fracturing of the pilot community, can't see any way around that (though we will probably have some capability for sharing forum posts via social media fairly soon).

So let's keep this topic on-topic, please!
