Someone asked me how many thermals I took on the lil' XC yesterday. It was about seven, but only a few good ones.
Track is attached, which shows the wind starting to pull the thermals flat. There were strong west and south winds away from launch. I was also getting tired, so I wasn't as aggressive in taking the stronger ones that would push me back into the mountains again. I wanted to stay out in front, and took a line I thought would get me there, but didn't work as I had hoped with the strong south valley wind. I probably could have pushed against the next ridge further east of where I landed (nice little angle to catch thermals there), but I didn't see any good bailouts behind me in the event the drift was more than anticipated.
Had great luck getting a ride back thanks to sign from Rat Race. Had a couple take me all the way back to the LZ since they were just out for a drive. Sweet!
