Highland, July 12th

Tomorrow should be an excellent day at Ridgely with light surface winds predicted and a thermal cast that suggests that we may spend significant time above 4K.

A high layer of thin clouds (scuz) reduced the thermal generation so the lift was not a near good as the forecasts indicated. Some soaring started around 1:00 pm. I had a decent flight but not as long as desired ending with about 40+ minutes and most of that in one area of lift that was good for a while then got lighter and lighter. Got to 4500 in the early part which was about cloud base. After that I found nothing. A number of pilots in the competition went on course and maybe found lift. The sky cleared later but not sure if lift improved.
