Pulpit Friday 5/22

Post by XCanytime »

I am looking to fly again before work in the PM. Friday looks good at the Pulpit. Added benefits are it's a half hour closer than Woodstock from home and a half hour closer to Rockville where I work, which could increase the airtime by an hour  . Is anybody interested in flying the Pulpit this Friday and able to be there early, say before 10A?? Thanks, Bacil

I will be there in the morning to "observe" Bacil :D
Hopefully, I will also be able to fly in the morning at Pulpit and afternoon at WS :)

Got to the Pulpit at 8:15A. Already moderately strong and soarable. Walt was already there. On the way Andy Balk diverted from a straight shot to Hyner to help out also. Turns out he was sorely needed. By the time I had finished setting up (an hour) it had shut almost completely down. The atmosphere was taking a deep breath. We waited around til 10:20A when I called it quits. The secondary is completely in corn, and without guaranteed ridge lift, it was not worth the risk of not making the main. Walt convinced me to wait 2 minutes, and sure enough, like someone flicking a light switch, it started blowing strong. Andy and Walt assisted me in rolling the glider slowly down deep on the pad. It was very strong. When it was good, I cleared and went straight up and hovered above Andy and Walt for a few seconds. Wings were level, so I went to the basetube, kicked into the harness, and flew slowly away from the ridge. Lots of lift out in front, so I just dolphin flew around, getting to 1000' over. A cloud formed upwind that had a Pileus cloud on the top. That was a scary sight, so I decided to land. Tried to make the golf course, but the headwind and sink negated that. So I put down in the main in moderate turbulence. Walt graciously came and got me, as Andy headed on to Hyner. Made it to Rockville by 2P. Heard it was very sweet at Woodstock after 6P for the 6 flyers there. Bacil
